shopping from the u.s.?
last updated: september 20, 2025
if you’ve ordered from canada before, you might remember a “de minimis” rule that let small packages enter the u.s. duty-free. that ended on august 29, 2025. from that date on, all imports—big or small—are assessed for duties and fees by u.s. customs and border protection (CBP).
what changed, in plain english
- de minimis ended. the old $800 duty-free threshold no longer exists.
- IEEPA tariffs exist. the u.s. added extra tariffs under a law called the international emergency economic powers act (IEEPA).
- postal vs. courier now matters. postal (canada post → USPS) follows a different duty collection system and cannot use the CUSMA/IEEPA relief. brokered courier/commercial entries can.
the good news for our customers
all of our products are CUSMA-eligible. that means they qualify for duty-free entry into the u.s. under the canada-u.s.-mexico agreement when entered through a brokered, non-postal method. because they qualify for preferential treatment, IEEPA tariffs do not apply to our products on these entries.
how we ship (and why that helps you)
we will now send u.s. orders via Chit Chats using a brokered, non-postal workflow. Chit Chats (through its brokerage partners) submits the required customs data and our CUSMA certification for your items.
what you’ll pay at checkout
you’ll see your items + shipping at checkout. for our products (all CUSMA-eligible) shipped via our brokered method, we don’t expect any duty/IEEPA charges on delivery. if CBP ever requests supporting documents, our broker provides the CUSMA certification tied to your order.
